The Newport Beach, California Public Library is considering going “bookless” because of budget cuts. It would be turned into a kind of “community center” where patrons could order books from a kiosk (like those Redbox DVD rental kiosks, I imagine) and the books would be delivered later to a locker where they could be picked up. The place wouldn’t be staffed either, but would have a direct phone connection to an off-site librarian.
Just close the damn place if that’s all it’s going to have. What an absurdity.
